With the weather improving and the evenings getting longer, we can start to think about sitting out on lovely warm evenings, relaxing after a long day with a long cool drink. A small Garden Lantern, made by you, would be a lovely garden feature.
In this Workshop…
Led by MADEby Master Maker Debbie Page she will guide you on how to make your Garden Lantern. You will roll out slabs of clay, cut them to shape, and then shape the clay using card board formers.
The lantern will have 2 parts – the lantern cylinder and a lid & handle. When the clay has hardened a little you will then cut out shapes from the cylinder section, for the light to fall through. Debbie will be bringing along some ideas and patterns however please feel free to research and design your own.
At the end of the workshop, Debbie will dry the lanterns, fire them to stoneware temperature so that they will be frost-proof. Your lantern will be available for collection approx 4 weeks after the Workshop.
Suitable for all levels of experience, including beginners. The maximum class size is 10 so there will be plenty of one to one guidance and support. The cost includes all materials and firings.
Please bring with you to the workshop: All aprons, materials, tools and equipment will be provided, however please bring a small note/sketchbook and a pen or pencil, as you may wish to make a few doodles and notes about your work.
She also recommends you treat yourself to a good quality handcream as the clay and water can be hard on the hands. You may find it easier to have short finger nails when working with clay.
