Decorating Clay Tiles or Plates – an introduction to coloured Slips on Clay
Never worked with clay before or not since school?
Dabbled and loved it but a bit rusty?
Come along and experience this truly mindful workshop. Open to all abilities and run by our talented Master Maker and TV’s Great British Pottery Throwdown contestant Elaine Wells.
In This Workshop…
Elaine will demonstrate a range of ways to decorate thin slabs of earthenware clay with coloured slips. With endless possibilities you will apply slips to clay to create beautiful plates or tiles, no drawing skills are needed! You will have time to make up to 6 small plates or tiles.
Slip is a simple clay and water mixture with coloured pigment added and is a wonderful decorating tool because it allows for endless personal expression. Elaine will bring a selection of coloured slips which can be applied in many ways using a brush like paint, a slip trailer like icing or your fingers! You are welcome to bring design ideas with you, a piece of your favourite fabric, photograph of a flower or just wait to see what your imagination comes up with.
At the end of the workshop, Elaine will need to take your tiles/plates back to her studio to dry them, biscuit fire them and then glaze with a transparent glaze. Your items will be available for collection after approx. 4-5 weeks from the MadebyTamalia studio.
Please bring with you to the workshop an apron and an old towel. Elaine will bring reference books and example pots but please feel free to bring any design ideas and a small notebook. All other tools and equipment for the workshop will be provided.Workshop Date:
Wednesday 9th February 2022 – 7.00pm – 9.00pm
