Adding texture with stone, sand, grog, and other materials to your Pottery
Led by MADEby Master Maker and professional Potter Elaine Wells, this workshop is an in introduction for intermediate level Potters to using slip with sand, grog, or shells and other natural found items to add texture, colour and interest to your Pottery.
In this Workshop…
Elaine will introduce a variety of stones, sand, grog, and organic material that can be easily foraged, purchased, or made in the studio and added to a slip or any clay body to achieve a range of textures and results. Elaine will bring a selection of natural found items to get you started and you will explore the techniques for mixing, processing, testing, and incorporating the materials in clay or slip and examples of finished results.
In the Workshop you can start a set of test tiles for a reference library of the possibilities and how to test your future foraging. You will have the opportunity to mix small pots of liquid samples. It is expected that you will take your test to fire in your studio in line with your normal firing schedule to give true results. The workshop is based around results around stoneware temperatures.
Please bring with you to the workshop: All aprons, materials, tools and equipment will be provided, however please bring with you an old towel and cardboard or plastic trays to carry your test tiles home in. Also bring a notebook to record your tests.

Many of these techniques will be used in a variety of workshops at the MadeByTamalia Creativ.Spaces in the future. Read more about our fabulous Master Maker Elaine on our Master Makers Page >
